Re: 9746 patch bay used as an I/O?

Hello James. Within a P9700S, the audio or control patches can be made using a single conductor patch cable as the modules all share ground via the MIDI2CV8 working as the power source for the modules in the system. When you go to an external module, the grounds should link via the sleeve of the min...

Re: Synchronization Question

I do have a Hex Zone that accepts MIDI clock and can either subdivide the clock and has gate out. I also have a couple of clock dividers from Doepfer and CGS. Yes, one of these devices would be needed to get a quarter-note (or other) timed pulse to use as the "clock" for stepping though the sequenc...

Re: Synchronization Question

Hello Brian. Thanks, Scott! I'll give it a try as soon as I put it back together!! I do want to clear one thing up. Does the 4780 start when the TR909 starts (or in my case my DAW connected to the 9700 MIDI IN through my MOTU MIDI OUT)? Or is the timing running and you manually hit the 4780 start bu...

Let's try a replacement for the 1496 IC.

Shall I use the postal address from your order? If no, please email.

Re: 9710 VCA/Mixer - Test #4 & #6

Hello Nic, Tenchi. Apologies for the delayed response. I wanted to set-up and get some more measurements specific to the R24 and IC4. The variable voltage from R24 goes to pin 1 of the 1496 IC4 for minimizing the L+R signal (when no plug is in VCA A input), or, a signal applied to the VCA input. Bef...

Re: 4700 Modular-Kbd question

Also, it is simple interfacing the 1550 Stringz-n-Thingz to a PAiA 2720 and 4700 series modulars as is described and illustrated in the pdf linked below (from the second paragraph and on). These pages from the 1550 kit manual detail using the audio and gate-trigger as inputs to synthesizer modules. ...

Re: 9710 VCA/Mixer - Test #4 & #6

Thanks for this update -- The trouble might be due to using 'stereo' TipRingSleeve (TRS) plug terminated cables in the VCA A Carrier In, J3, and Modulation In, J6, TRS sockets. These VCA A inputs should be connected using 'mono' TipSleeve (TS) plug terminated cables. When the TS plug is inserted to ...

Computer Experiments record

Thanks for sharing these photos of your Computer Experiments record Chris! I just came across this LP (see screenshots) in my collection. I forgot I had this thing. It's quite interesting. It says that this was generated based on code written by John Simonton of Paia in 1980-1981. Very neat Paia art...

PAiA 3721 Wind Chimes, revisited

Thanks for sharing your photo and notes Ralph! Ralph’s project notes: The Electronic Wind Chimes project appeared in the April 1973 edition of "Popular Electronics including Electronics World" and was sold by PAIA as a kit. The device in the photograph is not built from a kit but from homemade PCBs ...

Re: 9710 VCA/Mixer - Test #4 & #6

Because R24 was referenced earlier, we weren't quite sure whether the mention of R34 was a typo, so we did the readings with R34 at 4.4V and R24 at default (0.03V), with R34 at default (1.82V) and R24 at 4.4V, and with both R34 and R24 at 4.4V. Each trim works to vary voltage and this voltage is on...
